Baden Powell & Sons has been a proud part of Scunthorpe life since 1933. Engineer Baden Powell and his wife Dora began with a bicycle shop at 68 Ashby High Street before moving the workshop to our current site at number 101. The business has grown through many eras of motoring and has supported a range of manufacturers. We take particular pride in our long service with Honda and Suzuki and recently, our role has also evolved and we are now a KGM main dealer offering the full range of new vehicles along with servicing, repairs and parts.

At the heart of our success is our dedicated team who are loyal and long serving. Several members have been with us for more than forty years, and with an average term of service exceeding 14 years, including apprentices, our people embody the values that define Baden Powell & Sons. This stability helps us deliver the consistent care that customers expect from a family firm and their knowledge, expertise, and passion for cars contribute to the exceptional service we provide.

From the early days of serving petrol in the 1930s to maintaining modern vehicles today, the aim has stayed the same. We work hard to provide clear and dependable advice and a friendly approach. We have built a nationwide reputation for professionalism, reliability and friendliness and our customers now come from across the country from Falmouth to Shetland, with many returning to us year after year.

Our workshop is staffed by manufacturer trained technicians who follow detailed procedures to ensure every vehicle receives the care it deserves. Baden Powell - A Timeline

In 1933 Baden Powell and wife, Dora open a bicycle shop at 68 Ashby High Street Dora runs the Raleigh dealership while engineer, Baden leases a workshop at 101 Ashby High Street, our current site and serves hand-pumped petrol. Central Garage is created

1940s The business expands its motor repairs.

WW2 sees Baden work on military vehicles and applying camouflage paint. Scunthorpe’s car ownership grows as does the demand for Baden’s engineering skills

1951 Sons Jack, and Bob (pictured) join the business as engineers and serve petrol

1958 The company acquires the entire site. The bicycle shop closes, and we concentrate wholly on motor cars

1962 After a period with Triumph, we take on BMC as Morris and Wolseley dealer

1963 We open another site on the same street and become Vauxhall Bedford dealer

1963 The old Central Garage sign is replaced with our new name, Baden Powell & Sons Ltd

1968 We supply 30 ‘Panda’ cars to Lincolnshire Police, From left, brothers Allan, Jack & Bob Powell

1970 Scunthorpe is on the up. Bob Powell with a new Vauxhall Viva SL and some very famous golf trophies

1977 We go European. Citroen and then Peugeot join Baden Powell and we open more showrooms in Scunthorpe and Brigg

1978 We show off the new range of Citroens including the GS and CX Safari

1983 Renault joins Baden Powell as our third French marque as the manufacturer introduces a series of successful new models to the UK

1987 Our showroom is now filled with Renaults including the latest Renault 5, 11 and 21 range

1993 We become a Honda dealer and the site is radically remodelled to include new showrooms

1994 A new showroom and the Civic, Accord, Prelude and Type-R models become massive hits

2000s/2010s In 2004 Suzuki joins Baden Powell. In 2019 Allan Powell receives a plaque from Suzuki GB in recognition of our 15 year service with the marque

In 2023 we celebrate our 90th Anniversary Two old buildings have now been demolished and the space used for improved customer parking and an enlarged forecourt

But any such amounts they and other lenders pay us will not affect the amounts you pay under your finance agreement, all of which are set by the lender concerned. If you ask us what the amount of commission is, we will tell you in good time before the Finance agreement is executed.
